Obituary For Thomas Tarpey

Thomas Tarpey, of Putnam Valley, passed away at age 64 on December 1st peacefully in his sleep. Thomas was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Magdalena Tarpey, with whom he shared a life built on partnership, laughter, and quiet moments of kindness.

Thomas dedicated 38 years to the IBEW Local 3, where he built lasting friendships and a reputation for integrity, skill, and hard work. He took great pride in his career and retired with the respect of those who worked beside him over many decades.

Outside of work, Thomas found joy on the open road, especially when riding his Harley, a passion that reflected his independent spirit and love of adventure. At home, his happiest moments were spent with family and with his beloved dog, Tobie, whose companionship meant the world to him.

Though he never had children of his own, Thomas embraced his role in a blended family. He treasured time with his stepchildren, Alexander Brown, Samantha Guzman, and Steven Guzman, and their families, proudly watching their lives grow and change. He was especially grateful for the joy brought by four grandchildren, who filled his later years with warmth and laughter.

Thomas is survived by his brother John Tarpey and his wife Carol, and Bob Tarpey and his wife Jane. He will also be lovingly remembered by his nieces, Alexa, Gianna, Nicole, and Marissa whom he adored

Those who knew Thomas will remember him for his eccentric personality, his steady presence, and his deep loyalty to the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the memories shared by family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

Visiting hours are on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm at Heritage Funeral Home, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery.

My condolences to Tommy’s family. I grew up around the corner from the Tarpey brothers. We made the most of the golden years that were the 60’s and 70’s. Tommy, me, his brothers and other friends had the time of our lives exploring our neighborhood and the high school field behind it. Tommy, though a few years younger, was always in on the action. Some of my fondest memories involved riding mini bikes with Tommy and his brothers. As we got our drivers licenses, the fun continued. I remember when we took Tommy to Queens to camp out on line to get into the prestigious Local 3 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Though we lost touch in later years, the memories we made in our youth were priceless.
