Obituary For Rose Culhane

Rose M. Culhane passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024. She was 78 years old.

Rose was born in the Bronx, where she grew up and was affectionately known and teased for a Bronx accent thicker than the chocolate “mawlted” she so loved. She loved her scratch- off tickets, playing Bingo, and she had no problem letting you know that calling her during Jeopardy was a cardinal sin. Rose had a smile that could light up a room and was considered the ultimate baby whisperer. She also had a beautiful singing voice and in the summers the entire neighborhood could often hear her renditions of Anne Murray’s classics. She loved reruns, a comfy sweatsuit, and spending time with her family each summer in Ocean City, MD. Rose was an animal lover and even once surprised her family by smuggling a puppy into the house at midnight after everyone had gone to bed.

Rose is survived by Denis Culhane, her loving husband of 57 years, her children, Kathleen Culhane, EIleen Gencarelli, Denis Culhane and Julie Culhane (Jack Kearney). Rose also leaves behind her two favorite people, her grandchildren Rose and Dominic Gencarelli. She is predeceased by her parents John and Mary Barrett and her siblings, John “JJ” Barrett, Jimmy Barrett, Vinny Barrett, Patsy O’Brien and Kathleen Letscher. Rose leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and a tight-knit group of childhood friends that she remained close with until the very end. Additionally, she leaves behind her dog, Annie, and grandpups, Phineas, Allie, Francie and Curtis.

Mom, there are no words for how much we will miss seeing you.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 4-8 pm at Heritage Funeral Home, 35 Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley, NY 10579. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 11 am at the North American Martyrs Chapel, 55 Oscawana Lake Rd., Putnam Valley, NY 10579.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
