Michael Arthur Higgins of Lake Peekskill, NY passed away after a brief illness in the morning of January 17th, 2025.

Michael Arthur Higgins was born on November 30th, 1938 to Michael Higgins of County Mayo, Ireland and Madeline Steele of New York City in the Bronx, New York.

He served two years in the United States Army in the 82nd Air Borne, with an Honorable Discharge. He was very active in 82nd Airborne activities for many years after his enlistment with the 504, Walter Hughes Chapter.

Michael was a drum major in a bagpipe band and attended various Highland games and Irish feis (festivals) for competitions and festivities for many years. Michael retired from the New York Board of Education.

Michael is survived by his two stepsons, Scotty Connery and Robert, as well as Robert’s wife, Janet. He also leaves behind his sister Bridgett “Chickie” Clifford and her husband James Clifford, brother James Higgins, and daughter Eileen Brady. Michael was preceded in death by his son, Michael “Mikey” Higgins, his brother Thomas and his sister Margaret. Lastly, Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella Ann Higgins who died on June 4th, 2024.

A special thanks goes out to their neighbors for their help, friendship and support, especially Susie and Paul. He will be greatly missed, and the world will be a darker place without the love he and Marcy had to light it up.

Friends of Michael Higgins will gather on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 9 a.m. until 12 Noon at Heritage Funeral Home, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
