Obituary For Lenore Coakley

Lenore Regina Norman Coakley, age 64, was born on April 18,1959 in Queens, NY, the daughter of the late Herbert Lavell Norman and the late Hartencia Nancy Wilson Norman. She was the second child of five. She transitioned home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 21, 2023 in Georgia.

Lenore moved from Queensbridge to Co-op City with her family in 1972. She graduated from Harry S. Truman High School in 1977 and went on to attend Briar Cliff College for one year. Lenore worked as a Railroad Clerk for the NY City Transit Authority for many years before her diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. After retirement, Lenore moved to Georgia. She became a member of the Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed the Sunday church services.

Lenore had many accomplishments in her lifetime. She was an outstanding cook and enjoyed bringing family and friends together for her tasty meals. She had many special dishes, but her “potato salad” will be greatly missed.
There are no words to express the depth of sorrow that the family feels regarding the passing of Lenore. She was a kind loving spirit. We all remember when Lenore was given a 2 year prognosis, that was over 20+ years ago. Doctors and nurses were always amazed by her strength and her will to keep fighting, to keep living. Family and friends would often joke and call Lenore “Lazarus”.
Our hearts are heavy and ache today, yet we are all so grateful for the times we spent laughing with our Norie. She fought a good fight.

Lenore was preceded in death by her father Herbert Norman, mother Hartencia Norman, grandmother (Ka-Ka) Manny Wilson, brother Herbie Norman Jr, and many others.

Lenore (Norie) is survived by her: loving husband, Leon M. Coakley (who took such good care of her), of Villa Rica, GA, devoted dedicated daughter, Vanessa David (who never said “NO” to her) of Bronx, NY, grand-daughter Dominique Lewis(her Katie Nana who she loved dearly) of Bronx, NY, step-son Michael McNair, brothers David Norman of Bronx, NY and Jefferey Norman of CA, sister Yvonne Norman of New Windsor, NY, sisters-in-law, Denise Norman of NC, Leisa Norman of NC, Vanessa Norman of Bronx NY, brother-in-law John Callum of New Windsor NY, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
